Annabel Dunstan in conversation with Tony Dain, Managing Director, Future Vision Training, Performance Coach and Facilitator

A real treat to interview Tony, who shares his ‘conscious shift’ from being focused on others and his work whilst to some extent neglecting his own path and purpose.  A fascinating story and a spotlight on the skills and experience that he brings to football teams and businesses alike, helping to develop high-performance teams and cultivating the leadership skills the world needs right now.

In this interview, we asked:

1. What led you to a career in performance coaching and in particular helping individuals to look at and manage their emotions?

2. Can you describe your approach to helping athletes and teams build mental resilience and self-confidence? How do you tailor your coaching techniques for male and female footballers? Is there a difference by gender in responses to your suggested approach?

3. Managing self-criticism and negative self-talk is crucial for both athletes and employees. What strategies do you employ to help individuals overcome self-doubt and reach their peak performance levels?

4. Footballers face intense pressure and high-stakes situations during matches. Could you share examples of how you’ve helped athletes manage performance anxiety and stay focused in critical moments?

5. Can you describe your approach to developing effective communication and leadership skills among athletes and employees? How do these skills contribute to team success?

6. In the world of sports and business, there can be a fine balance between healthy competition and teamwork. How do you foster a competitive spirit while ensuring it doesn’t hinder team cohesion and collaboration?
